Kelly is a little modest when it comes to all he has achieved. She is an inspiration to a lot of people. She is a girl on a mission for sure!

I knew I liked her the second she came in the door. I knew she was ready to make a change; a fitness professionals dream come true (the eager ones ready to conquer the world)! I really knew I liked her when she came to the Spartan 1000 Challenge after ONLY 3 weeks with us. We have campers who haven’t done it and they have been with me for 1-2 years.

The Spartan 1000 she did was one I will always remember. She got to 200 burpees and was angry and wanted to quit (her legs were tired). I know what you’re thinking –lol! At that point, I told her to take a break. She has the personality that if she would have quit, she would have been very upset with herself, so I took the chance to have her mad at me. She took the break and then at 270 burpees she fell down. Her legs were TIRED! I looked at her and said “you ok Kelly” and she said yes. She went on to finish 400 burpees and her 1st Spartan! The cute thing about it also, was 2 of the other campers who were done a while back, stayed to cheer her on. She had already made others want to be around her and of course, that is the kind of people who come to Get  a Grip – and Kelly is no exception.

As you will read, she is doing mud races, 5k, ½ marathons, and so much more…who would have thought. I’m SO proud of her and looking forward to seeing what else she can get her hands into.

Here is her story…

I have been heavy most of my life and knew that I deserved better but didn’t know how to do it on my own.  I had been struggling with my weight and fitness for years and when I came to Get a Grip in August 2011, I was ready for a change.

I was already down 25 pounds from my highest weight and it had taken me about a year to get there. I knew that if I was to get to where I wanted to be, I had to do something radically different than I had tried in the past.

Kelly Simms Before 225x300 Spotlight Sunday...Kelly Simms! Unstoppable!

I started coming to Carrie’s Hardcore Abs classes and once I got to know Carrie’s personality, I was hooked.  She didn’t take herself too seriously but I knew from the first meeting she was serious about what she does and is dedicated to getting results.  After going to the abs class for about 2 weeks, I decided it was time to commit to Bootcamp.

I signed up for a 12 month commitment having never attended one of her camps.  I knew that if had done a month-to-month commitment, I would be more likely to give up.  The first time I went to camp, I thought to myself “What have I gotten into?”  I was so sore that I even emailed Carrie asking if I should come back that Wednesday.  Of course, she said yes and I showed up.  To my surprise, I felt better and wasn’t nearly as sore after camp that night.

It also helped that Carrie was genuinely happy to see me back.  That changed my mind.  I knew if she was happy to see me, she cared enough to help me get the results I wanted and deserved.  Then, I was really hooked.  I guess you could say that’s when I took my first sip of the “Kukuda Coffee”.

Carrie convinced me to do my first Spartan Challenge in September and I haven’t looked back since.

I have lost an additional 26 pounds since I started with Carrie and I have completed 3 more Spartans and a half marathon since I started in September. I am also signed up for 2 more half marathons and a 10 mile race within the next year. I have even had a few people let me know that I have inspired them to start running. It’s still surreal, at times, that people ask me for advice when it comes to fitness and eating well.

The people I have met here are incredible.  They have accepted me as family and I am so thankful for them.  Carrie and I have set goals and I CRUSH them! I never imagined that I would have reached the milestones I have when I started and I am looking forward to what’s in store in 2012! BRING IT ON!!!

Another client’s amazing results for our Spotlight Sunday…Sara Padgett!

She has been with us for about 8 months and has been a true inspiration too many. She is very quiet in camp, but works extremely hard giving it 200%. Her faces are funny as she looks like I’m killing her, but she keeps going. I am amazed how much she has transformed her body both visually AND physically. She has leaned out and has gotten much stronger. Her commitment definitely shows! She does everything she can to make camp a priority and encourages others to do the same.

People like her are why I love what I do. She has gone from modified push-ups to regular ones, she’s moved up her weights and kettlebell, she’s running faster, and does extremely well on the TRX. I can always count on her to give it her all.

She is VERY modest on all she has achieved, but she deserves an A+ for your commitment, determination, encouraging and inspiring others, and for the beautiful person she is inside and out.

Here is her story…

I first heard about Carrie's Boot Camp about a year ago. A very dear friend and I would walk together once a week for about 30 – 45 minutes. That was my only form of exercise at the time (although the only exercise we really got was our jaws from talking).  She had just started going to boot camp and was trying to persuade me to join her. At the time, my youngest child was still in preschool and was home with me on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, the same time boot camp was going on in Lutz.  My perfect excuse to not go!

When I thought of boot camp I thought of an instructor yelling at you to do more and people throwing up in the nearest trash can (I think I was watching too much Biggest Loser!!!).

Over the summer my friend would bring up boot camp from time to time and would let me know that once school started back up again in August, it would be the perfect time for me to go to boot camp with her.

I think my first hurdle was actually doing something for myself.  I had been a mom for so many years that I had a hard time actually taking the time and doing something just for me. Once school got underway, I had no more excuses and I started attending boot camp. In fact, I was so excited about it that I got my friend, who had taken the summer off, to come back earlier than she had planned!

The first class was the toughest workout I had ever done. My body ached before I even left the class. Carrie said to make sure to come back on Thursday. I came back on Thursday and the workout was just as tough and I was just as sore. I was doing exercises that I had never heard of before (i.e. burpees, spider man, plank, etc.!). I gradually started getting to a point when I came to boot camp I wasn't feeling as sore. After a few weeks I was hooked. I love the atmosphere at boot camp. You go at your own pace and everyone is so supportive of each other.

I was a soda/Mt. Dew/chocolate milk love – and I’ve given them up. I also took on the Spartan 1000 challenge and now can perform deck squats with ease. I've not only lost pounds but I have lost inches as well. The great thing with attending boot camp is you do see results. Sara Padgett 225x300 Spotlight Sunday...Sara Padgett! 200%!

I was shopping for shorts back in March and decided to try a size smaller than the normal size I wear. To my amazement that size was too big. I've actually went down two sizes from a year ago!

Now I'm in my 8th month of boot camp and I feel great! More importantly, I've changed some habits, become much more active and made new friends!

Congrats Sara! Looking forward to what you accomplish this year!

It is so crazy how time flies. Deb just hit her 2 year mark at Get A Grip! Although I feel like I’ve known her forever it still blows me away how fast time goes by. Deb has always been my biggest fan. To watch her at work makes me laugh. A new person would attend boot camp and she would introduce herself and talk about how great the program was. No need for me to sell myself with Deb around. I would sit back a smile.

She is so many things; funny, dynamic, very generous, kind, goofy, a blast to be with, and a dear friend now. And that’s not all; she’s determined, dedicated, and incredibility full of positive energy. She’s been through so much in the last year and still so positive. One thing people can learn from her is that no matter what is going on around you, one of the most important things you can do for yourself is to continue to take care of yourself (so, you can help take care of others) and surround yourself with others how support you and will help you through anything.

I love having her apart of Get A Grip and it wouldn’t be the same without her.

I don’t want to steal her story, so here it is…

My first year with Get A Grip was about me becoming physically healthy.  In February of 2010, I came across a Groupon for one month of “boot camp” with Carrie Kukuda.  I had high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and was looking for a workout that would get me out of the house, so I figured “what the hell” and decided to see what happened; well, I fell in love with boot camp and with Carrie.  Within 6 months I was off all my meds for high blood pressure and high cholesterol.  Not only was I taking control of my health I was also physically becoming stronger.

My second year was mostly about my emotional strength.  People in crisis seem to slack off, find excuses to eat unhealthy and get lazy. I am here to tell you – exercise was the best for me.  I can’t imagine how many push-ups and mountain climbers I beat the hell out of.  My best friend of 25 years was diagnosed with cancer and it was not looking good as far as her survival.  I needed the support from my boot camp family and they were there for me 100% – any time day or night. I don’t think I would have been in such good health and shape had it not been for Carrie and everyone at Get A Grip.

Get A Grip has become a family to me.  Not only has Carrie been inspiring, but we girls at boot camp keep each other accountable for our excuses, and as we all know there are NO EXCUSES!!!  With two years under my belt, I am now both physically and emotionally healthy; with the support at Get A Grip, I know that this year, I will be the best me that I can be!  Weeeeeeee!  XOXO

The moment I might Jean, I liked her. She asked several questions and was such a sponge. She was determined to make some changes and boy did she do just that. She applied everything we spoke about and she transformed her body and MIND in a very short period of time. She looked great when she came to Get A Grip, but now she has a certain glow to her now and looks amazing! She works hard every time she comes in the doors and it shows.

People like Jean are why I love what I do; she took the tools I can offer and APPLIED them! The only thing is she blew it out of the water! She exceeded past my expectations and is still going strong. I’m very proud of her and love having her as part of the Get A Grip Family!

Here is her story…

I came across Get A Grip one day by accident.  It was one of the best accidents that happen to me.

Like just about every mom my days are usually all about my kids and their schedule.  Trying to fit in everything and not leaving much time for myself.

One day while I was taking my daughter somewhere I came across Get A Grip.  I saw the studio and decided to go in and find out about it.  I thought it sounded good but just didn't know if I could fit it in my schedule, especially with summer being just around the corner at that time.  So I put it on the back burner.

Exercise has always been an important part of my life. Through the years I belonged to several gyms, exercise programs and even had trainers.  However, it wasn't until the end of last September that I felt like I was in a rut and wanted to do something for myself.  I decided it was time to follow up with Get A Grip.  It was the best thing I could have done.

Once I became a member Carrie and I put together a plan based on my goals.  Within three months I met my goals. I went down two dress sizes and reached my goal weight. I was very excited and felt great.  At first after those three months I was so fixed on a certain number on the scale.  Once again with Carrie's help I realized that number on the scale is not the most important thing.  Through Carrie and fellow campers I have come to understand that there is a bigger picture.  That picture being…doing what I can to live a healthy lifestyle.  Every day I am trying to focus on keeping things simple, making better choices on what is healthy for my body as well as my mind. Carrie also taught me to set one or two smaller goals focus on them and to "not bite off more than I can chew".  This is a great way for me to keep the stress level down.

What I love about Get A Grip is not only the great workouts but also all the incredible coaching and positive motivation.  The fellow campers are awesome as well.  I have made some terrific new friends and I look forward to seeing them at boot camp.  When Carrie asked me to share my story as a Spotlight I was really excited.  I was excited not just to share my great results, or to tell you that I think Carrie is an awesome trainer who totally cares about her clients, but because I know there are others out there like me, who may think I don't have the time or energy for a program like this.  That was what I thought, but now I build my schedule around my workout time.  It is something you can do for yourself and it will make you happy that you are doing it and that will flow into everything you do.
